2016-02 Creation & Policy of Town Website

Whereas a website is a means to make a large amount of information such as meeting notices, contact information, agendas, minutes, and other documents more easily available to the residents of the Town of Thornapple.

Whereas this website can be used for meeting notifications in accordance with Act 79, Wisconsin Statute ยง 985.02 (2) (a): The notice must be posted in at least 3 public places likely to give notice to persons affected or must be posted in at least one public place likely to give notice to persons affected and placed electronically on an Internet site maintained by the municipality.

Be it resolved by the Town Board of the Town of Thornapple, adopted by a two-thirds majority of the town board, that we authorize the creation of a town website. The township will own the website URL: www.townofthornapple.com

Be it further resolved that we will contract with Dennis Engelking of Conrath, WI (715-456-6906) for the creation of the website. There is an initial one-time cost of $200.00 for the set-up and training. The cost of hosting the 1.2 gigabyte website is $50.00 every three months. The cost of the domain name is $18.95 once each year. The website can be easily edited but if any assistance is needed, Mr. Engelking will do the work at $25.00 per hour.

Be it further resolved that the Town of Thornapple board will assign the primary responsibility of updating the website to the Town Clerk. The Town Clerk may ask for assistance updating the site from a deputy clerk.

Be it further resolved that the Town of Thornapple will continue to post meeting notifications at three public locations (Town hall, Town Dump & Recycling Center, Heiny Road) in addition to the website until such time as the board adopts a resolution changing it.

Be it further resolved that items to be posted on the website will be: legal notices of ordinances, resolutions, budgets, notice of meetings, meeting agendas, approved meeting minutes, contact information, town dump schedule, calendar, links to other government websites (such as Rusk County) and other announcements of official functions of the township. Also provided will be information on voting absentee and where to obtain permits and other documents.

Be it further resolved that the website can only be terminated by two-thirds majority vote of the Town of Thornapple Board.
